Stay Curious
In John Maxwell’s best-selling book 15 Invaluable Laws of Growth , he refers to the Law of Curiosity as “Growth is stimulated by asking Why”.
Personally, I have always been curious. I can remember as a kid, when all my friends were sleeping in, I was up very early, anxious to get going and seeing what was going on. I was afraid I was going to miss something!
If we want to grow, and our organizations to succeed, we must have a powerful desire to be curious and wanting to learn.
Curious leaders are constantly asking “why”? Why do we do it (whatever) that way? How can we do what we did well yesterday, better today or tomorrow?
Patrick Lencioni’ in https://lnkd.in/eMp4MqJV describes it as Wonderment.
Leaders with a beginner's mindset are always learning and seeking knowledge. They are extremely comfortable being vulnerable.
Any time a person is answering more than asking questions, they have stopped learning; and growing.
Recognize there is never the “right” answer or option. Instead, curious leaders are in search of all viable options to be considered. They have created organizational environments and cultures where decisions are made based upon considering all the options, that creates the biggest opportunity for growth.
Foster an organizational culture where curiosity and searching for all feasible options is encouraged and recognized. Make “why” the favorite question.
Finally, Get Over Yourself. Embrace failure as a demonstration of progress and growth, not a sign of weakness, foolishness, or mistakes.
